THE MATCH

MATCH DAY

As we mentioned above, the Match is the process of combining all the submitted lists from applicants and programs to generate a list of pairings between programs and applicants. Match Day simply refers to the date that medical schools inform students about the outcome of the Match. That’s really it. Nothing left in the residency application process after this. Congratulations!

THE SCRAMBLE

It is possible that after everything, you did not match. This means that once the Match process occurred, the programs you applied to filled up spots with people that the program ranked more highly than yourself. Similarly, it is possible that programs did not fill all of their spots.

About a week before Match Day, those applicants who did not match will be alerted. They can then enter the scramble which is a process where applicants reach out to programs with empty spots and attempt to secure those spots. Our website does not go further into the scramble or options to pursue after not matching.
